Lake Lucerne: Switzerland's Cottage Country

Updated: Aug 16, 2022

Hey guys! Hope you've had a good week thus far!

We've been hearing a lot of great things about Lake Lucerne lately, and after a vacation there, we feel that it's definitely worth the hype. There are tons of small towns along Lake Lucerne, and this makes for a very interesting vacation, because you can visit many different townships by taking day trips. This is an awesome experience, because you're able to explore tons of new places that are merely a short boat or car ride away.

After a magnificent visit to Lake Lucerne, we want to help you plan your own summer vacation in this destination. Read through our post to arm yourself with the best tips for a fabulous trip!

1. Stay in a phenomenal hotel

A trip to Lake Lucerne is more of a relaxing, laid back kind of vacation, so it's essential that you're staying in a great hotel where you can pamper yourself.

  • Park Hotel, Vitznau

We feel that the Park Hotel, Vitznau is the best in the area, because it offers lots of amenities, such as an outdoor pool, a hot tub, a spa, 3 restaurants, and (of course) Lake Lucerne itself. Park Hotel was recently renovated, so the entire hotel is super polished and elegant, including the rooms. In addition, the hotel staff are warm, friendly, and committed to meeting your every need. Staying at the Park Hotel is a luxurious experience, and we promise, you'll never want to leave.

We absolutely adore this hotel, but we have to admit, it is a little pricey, so it may not be fit for some. Luckily, there are several other hotels within the area that are still lovely, yet less expensive.

2. It's all about the food

Your vacation is the perfect time to indulge and eat great food. But - when the only thing you can look at is a restaurant's website, it can be hard to determine the good from the bad. We don't want you to waste hours sifting through online menus, so we've created a list of our favourite eats in the Lake Lucerne area.

  • Lake Terrace Restaurant (only accessible to those staying at Park Hotel, Vitznau) 8.5/10 Seestrasse 18, 6354 Vitznau

This restaurant is a go-to for Park Hotel guests, because it offers fresh, delicious food for all 3 meals of the day. With great service and a spectacular view of the water, guests couldn't possibly ask for more.

  • Ammos Authentic Greek Cuisine 9.2/10 Pfistergasse 16, 6003 Lucerne

A meal at Ammos is like a trip to Greece. The food is wholesome, delectable, and truly authentic. What makes this spot even better is that it's right by the water, so there's not only great food, but also a great atmosphere.

  • Restaurant Hirschen 8/10 Unterdorf 9, 6403 Küssnacht

Right outside quaint Hotel Hirschen, this restaurant is a wonderful place to stumble upon. The food is mouthwatering, but more than that, it feels like something out of a storybook.

*The wait staff don't speak much english, but they are very friendly and try their best*

  • Restaurant Prisma (only accessible to those staying at Park Hotel, Vitznau) 9.7/10 Seestrasse 18, 6354 Vitznau

Prisma prides itself on being an Asian fusion restaurant with unique, flavoursome dishes. What we love about this restaurant is that it checks each and every box; the service is splendid, the scenery is stunning, and you can't get food like this anywhere else.

3. Easygoing, yet exciting outings

Vacations are all about enjoyment, so it's paramount that you find things to do each day that you know you'll love. Fortunately, we've created our own little cheat sheet for you will all of our best ideas.

Mount Rigi → There's a cute little train you can take from Vitznau up to Mount Rigi. The train ride itself is full of glorious views, but nothing compares to the view at the summit. At the top of the mountain, there are tons of maps and pamphlets, so we recommend grabbing a map so you're familiar with the train stops, but we also suggest that you take a flower pamphlet. Spotting flowers during your hike is a great way to entertain yourselves, and we personally enjoyed doing this.

Lucerne → Whether you're staying here, or in another small town, roaming the streets of Lucerne is pleasurable either way. You can most likely get a Lucerne city guide from your concierge, like we did, and you can use it to find the historical monuments. We recommend that you visit the Chapel Bridge, the Water Tower, the Jesuit Church, the Franciscan Church, the Needle Dam, and the Spreuer. You should also use your city guide to locate big shopping streets if you're interested in browsing through stores.

Vier Waldstättersee Public Boats → A fun way to get from town to town is by talking the public boat. Vier Waldstättersee public boats stop in nearly all the towns in the area, so taking the public boat is a fantastic way to explore while enjoying the cool summer breeze and gorgeous views.

Rivella Water Splash → If you have kids, or even if you're fun-loving adults, we recommend visiting Rivella Water Splash to play on the massive water obstacle course. You can take part in races, blob each other, or even just laugh as you all inevitably wipe out.

Mount Pilatus → After a quick ride up the gondola in Lucerne, you will reach the paradise that is the peak of Mount Pilatus. With the opportunity to do a ropes course, go paragliding, ziplining, or hiking, the possibilities on this mountain are endless.

That's it for this post!! Hopefully we've given you some ideas for your next vacation!!! Adios!

Amicably,

Reco Geckos
